Prevent Blindness Wisconsin

Prevent Blindness Wisconsin is a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing blindness and preserving sight in Wisconsin.  We serve the state by promoting healthy vision and eye safety through eye screenings, information and referral services, and public and professional education.

Prevent Blindness Wisconsin provides free, direct sight-saving services throughout Wisconsin. In implementing these services, we prevent blindness by identifying early signs of vision disorders, facilitating early and effective treatment, and preventing eye injury. The purpose of Children’s vision screening is to increase the number of children in need of care who ultimately receive comprehensive eye exams. A vision screening consists of: Observation, Distance Visual Acuity, Random Dot E stereopsis screening and follow-up.

In the Fox Cities Prevent Blindness trains and certifies volunteers as vision screeners.  The screeners reach out to area daycares and provide vision screening. In many cases this is the first sight screening for the children.  For older adults, Prevent Blindness provides educational seminars on eye diseases.  Once the participants answer the screening questions, Prevent blindness provides local professional resources for those who test positive for indicators of possible eye disease.
