Volunteer: Dog Care or FosteringAre you experienced with dogs and have a few hours each week to spend providing care to the dogs who temporarily call Saving Paws home? Shifts will include let-outs to our back runs, kennel cleaning, feeding, watering, walking and socializing. As time permits you can also work with the dogs on basic commands like sit, stay, down, leave it, so they are better prepared and socialized for their new forever home. Schedule:We have 4 shifts per day: Morning: 8am or earlier, Mid-Day: 11-1, Dinner: 3-5pm and Evening: 7-9pm. On-boarding: Once you complete general orientation, we will partner you with a trained volunteer who will show you what to do. You will shadow that person for several shifts until you are comfortable to be on your own. We use an on-line scheduling tool called Volunteer Matters for sign ups. The best part is you choose a time that works for you – we do not have regular open hours. You must be 18 or older to volunteer with the dogs. If you are younger than 18, you can volunteer with an adult or guardian. Our dog care volunteers are rewarded with wagging tails, happy barks and doggy playtime. Our dogs are always excited to see our volunteers. Due to an overcrowding situation: We are also looking for dog lovers who are willing to foster until he or she finds their forever home. To begin your volunteer adventure, please complete the on-line application or email us at volunteers@savingpawswi.com for further information. Volunteer: Support the Animals!Saving Paws Animal Rescue would not be successful without the service and engagement of young people in our community. We have developed a list of ways for youth to support our rescue operation. Many of these ideas are from the students themselves. If you have an a new idea, we would love to hear it! On-site volunteering minimum age is 11 years old. Youth from 11-15 years old must be accompanied by parent or guardian. These are some ways to help off-site or in a group! Wish list Fulfillment – locate donors for items from our wish list to bring to our rescue. This is a great way for children to directly help our pets by finding them toys, blankets, litter, etc. and it gives them a wonderful feeling of generosity and pride! Party For The Pets – host a birthday, holiday, or other party and ask that guests bring donated items or money for the dogs and cats instead of a present. Schedule a time to bring these gifts in and receive a tour and see first-hand all the animals you are helping! Rescue Spokesperson – pass out general information flyers or special notices regarding upcoming rescue events like Santa Pictures, Gift Wrapping, Garage Sales, etc. They can also print pictures of our animals and pass them out to classmates and friends to show off our wonderful pets. Classroom Organizers – talk to classes at their school about the rescue and encourage them to “adopt” Saving Paws Rescue as a community project. They can hold a coloring contest (winners posted on our website) and raise donations or gather items from our wish list. Some schools have organized penny Wars and donated change to benefit Saving Paws animals. Groundskeepers – organize a rescue beautification project. Your child’s classroom, troop or other groups can schedule time to come out and plant flowers, bushes or even pull weeds to help keep our rescue a beautiful and happy place for our pets.
