Volunteer: Walking School Bus Volunteers NeededWalking School Bus assistants and substitute volunteers needed! What is a Walking School Bus? A Walking School Bus (WSB) is a safe, fun, and healthy way for children to walk to school together with the guidance of caring adult volunteers. Students get fresh air and exercise, while families enjoy peace of mind knowing their children are supervised along the way. How It Works: A group of children meet at a set location and walk to school together on a planned route. Adult volunteers (parents, staff, or community members) walk with the group, helping keep everyone safe and together. The walk usually takes about 20–30 minutes, depending on the route. The WSB runs rain or shine (except in unsafe weather conditions). Volunteer Details: Volunteers can commit to one or more days per week, or serve as a substitute when a leader is unavailable. No experience is needed—just a willingness to walk and supervise students. A brief training will be provided. Time commitment is minimal, but the positive impact is huge! Why Volunteer? Volunteer: Support the Animals!Saving Paws Animal Rescue would not be successful without the service and engagement of young people in our community. We have developed a list of ways for youth to support our rescue operation. Many of these ideas are from the students themselves. If you have an a new idea, we would love to hear it! On-site volunteering minimum age is 11 years old. Youth from 11-15 years old must be accompanied by parent or guardian. These are some ways to help off-site or in a group! Wish list Fulfillment – locate donors for items from our wish list to bring to our rescue. This is a great way for children to directly help our pets by finding them toys, blankets, litter, etc. and it gives them a wonderful feeling of generosity and pride! Party For The Pets – host a birthday, holiday, or other party and ask that guests bring donated items or money for the dogs and cats instead of a present. Schedule a time to bring these gifts in and receive a tour and see first-hand all the animals you are helping! Rescue Spokesperson – pass out general information flyers or special notices regarding upcoming rescue events like Santa Pictures, Gift Wrapping, Garage Sales, etc. They can also print pictures of our animals and pass them out to classmates and friends to show off our wonderful pets. Classroom Organizers – talk to classes at their school about the rescue and encourage them to “adopt” Saving Paws Rescue as a community project. They can hold a coloring contest (winners posted on our website) and raise donations or gather items from our wish list. Some schools have organized penny Wars and donated change to benefit Saving Paws animals. Groundskeepers – organize a rescue beautification project. Your child’s classroom, troop or other groups can schedule time to come out and plant flowers, bushes or even pull weeds to help keep our rescue a beautiful and happy place for our pets. Volunteer: Apparel ProcessingBe a part of our largest and most in-need-of-help department. Apparel is always plentiful and you can help at various stages of processing. Each piece is checked four times for quality. the First in donations, second by the apparel supervisor, third by the price processors, and the last time by the rack runners. This process allows us to keep our overflowing sales floor stocked with the best clothes for the community. Thankfully NO clothes are sent to the landfill that comes through Svdp. Price Processing- If you enjoy working around others and the idea of tagging clothes then price processing, offers a friendly setting. When you work in price processing you sit at an apparel station where you take carts that are separated by price and tag and hang the clothes on a hanger by size. These stations are in the center of the warehouse and a social hub. Some math is required at times but we will train you. Rack runners- Do you like to keep moving? Organizing and color coding? Rack runners take racks of pre-priced clothes and merchandise them on the sales floor. Rack runners also help to maintain the dressing rooms and return racks. This is a great option for anyone who loves clothes and enjoys social interactions. Rack runners spend the most time on the sales floor and therefore they get to know the customers.
