Assist People of Progression with small maintenance projects, including installation of security measures like doorknobs, motion lights, and video cameras.

Volunteers will assist with JA BizTown, which combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a fully interactive, simulated town. 4th-6th grade students run the economy and become producers and consumers for the day. They leave understanding the relationship between what they learn in school and their participation in a local economy. Volunteers will help a small group of students write checks and make business deposits, facilitate meetings, understand their jobs, provide encouragement, and have a great day.

Volunteer Paperwork: There are several forms to fill out as a JA BizTown Volunteer. If you have not yet completed these forms for this school year, please complete them prior to your visit by following this link.

Volunteer Training Phase 1:

-Complete prior to the simulation day.

-Review the Prepare to Be Awesome Guide for tips on supporting students throughout the day

-View 3 JA BizTown training videos (less than 30 minutes total) found at this Volunteer Resource Site. 

Phase 2:

-Arrive on-site at JA BizTown at your scheduled start time (which will typically be 60 minutes prior to student arrival.)

-You will be trained by JA staff in the business you will be working in for the day. -You will have an opportunity to review paperwork students will be using during the day.

-Volunteers have found this portion of the training very helpful.

 Schedule

The simulation will typically take about 4.5 hours to complete.

 Attire

Please wear comfortable business casual clothing and shoes. Company logo attire is welcome and encouraged.  

Lunch

Please plan on bringing your own lunch. JA does not have vending machines, refrigerators, or a microwave. Snacks will be provided at our student led café. There will not be enough time for you to leave to go get something, but feel free to have something delivered.

Help the YMCA with spring cleaning. Volunteers will be raking, landscaping with rocks, trimming, sweeping, and other outdoor activites.

Help with spring cleaning at St. Joseph's Food Program. Volunteers with clean up in the warehouse and/or outside to ensure the building and grounds are ready for their fundraiser event in June.

Help pull invasive species to clean up the Heckrodt wetlands.

Assist Community Clothes Closet with deep cleaning their donation center and shopping floor. This opportunity includes moving fixtures and tables around to dust/sweep/mop/sanitize. Windows will also be cleaned, both outdoors and indoors.

Help clean windows at Valley VNA to help brighten up the space for residents and staff!

Assist Community Benefit Tree with indoor and outdoor cleaning projects:

-Outdoor beautification: pulling weeds and planting pots

- Cleaning tables and chairs

- Processing donations for the thrift store

- Organizing

Help clean up Foster Elementary's outdoor learning and play spaces. Projects include cleaning exterior windows, staining outdoor wooden structures, painting bike racks and soccer goals, and refreshing the school garden area with light landscaping and organization. These improvements will help create a welcoming and engaging environment for students and support outdoor learning opportunities!

Volunteers will assist Belong Wisconsin with organizing supplies for their camp. Volunteers will assist with filling/inventory/organizing their cabin buckets, inventorying swag, and inventorying nursing supplies.

The Kimberly-Clark Eastern Wisconsin Diaper Bank is a program of United Way Fox Cities that helps support the one in two families that struggle with diaper need in our community. Our Diaper Bank oversees the collection, storage, and distribution of diapers and involves our community partners every step of the way. 

We rely on volunteers to repack diapers in standard counts to ensure equitable distribution to families. Repacking is a fun, team-building activity, requiring the ability to stand for the two-hour period.

Edison Elementary has a project to help improve students' coat hook areas. The wooden areas around student coat hooks have begun to splinter and coats, snow pants, and other belongings are beginning to catch. Volunteers with assist with putting contact paper over the coat hook areas in several of the school hallways. The project will make a big difference in keeping student belonings from being damaged.
