Originating in the Netherlands, the Cycling Without Age movement has grown in popularity across the U.S.—and now Make the Ride Happen is bringing it to our community!

We’re preparing to offer rides for adults age 60+ on scenic trails, to appointments, and to community events using a motorized trishaw. This isn’t about intense exercise—it’s about connection, fresh air, and creating joyful experiences.

Volunteer: Volunteer Driver

A ride may seem small — but for a senior or a person with a disability, it can mean everything.
Volunteers are needed to drive adults age 60+ or persons with a disability who do not use a wheelchair to medical appointments, the grocery store, the beauty shop, or simply to visit friends in Oshkosh and the Fox Cities communities. For many older adults, these trips are their lifeline to independence, dignity, and connection.
This is personal, neighbor-to-neighbor service. Volunteers use their own car and gas, offering more than just a ride — they offer companionship, reassurance, and kindness.
Scheduling is flexible. Serve just a half day a month or sign in to our software and pick rides as your schedule allows.
A few hours of your time can ease loneliness, reduce stress, and remind someone they are not alone.
Be the reason someone gets where they need to go.
Volunteer today.

Program Description:

In order to assist older adults to live in their home safely and healthy for as long as they choose, St. Paul Elder Services offers several services to community members.  ElderMatch is a free, volunteer program to decrease isolation in older adults. Studies show that there is a direct link between isolation and decline in cognitive, emotional, and physical health, particularly among the elderly.   Providing companionship on a regular basis with individuals of common interests is shown to alleviate and prolong any decline in these areas.  St Paul Elder Services and the Outagamie County ADRC are partners in developing and carrying out this program.

Those who understand the importance of developing a relationship with a homebound older adult to maintain their well-being. Those companions who want to work as part of a team to enhance the quality of life for the homebound. Those who have a willingness to be flexible in their schedule to meet the needs of their Match for a minimum of twice a month. The companion is someone who will strive to find shared interests and activities to engage their match during each visit. Also has a willingness to offer insights and ideas to improve this program.

Activities/Tasks:

1.      Meet with match every week or at minimum twice in one month for at least 1 hour per visit.

2.      Complete required paperwork for each visit and report monthly (report immediately in an emergency)

3.      Attend trainings and meetings for ElderMatch volunteers.

Please contact Shana Farrell, Hospice Volunteer Specialist, if you're interested in hosting a hygiene drive.  (920) 422-7583 or Shana.Farrell@thedacare.org

Thanks for your interest and help!

Volunteer: Help a Child - Become a Mentor

The Outagamie County Mentoring Program works with the youth in the community who need us the most. We match kids with adults who help them out just by being a friend and spending a few hours a month together. A successful match is life changing for both the mentor and mentee! The youth in our program are between 6-17 years old and have been referred by a social worker from Outagamie County Health and Human Services.

With 30 kids currently on waiting list,  we have a great need for more volunteer mentors.  Mentor matches spend a minimum of 4 hours a month together developing a positive and trusting relationship the youth can rely on. Mentors expose youth to new and positive experiences that enhance self esteem and improve social skills. We find that many mentors enjoy getting to be a kid again with their mentee!

If you mentor with Outagamie County, you will receive all the training and support you need to make your match successful. We sponsor several events each year for our matches and also reimburse for mileage.

Find and follow us on Facebook!  Check out our website www.outagamie.org/mentoring .

Email us at: hhsmentors@outagamie.org or call 920-832-5961. We'd love to hear from you!

Volunteer: Remote Volunteer Work for Aurora Health Care

Are you interested in making a positive impact on inpatients in our hospitals without leaving your home?

We would love to have you on our team!  We are looking for volunteers to call inpatients while in the hospital to welcome them to our care, relay visitation guidelines and inquire how their stay has been.

Concierge Admission Program (CAP) include the following tasks for volunteers:

Remotely, volunteers call patients using a well-developed script and introduce themselves, inquire how their patient experience has been since they arrived and explains the hospitals visitation guidelines. Volunteers inquire with patients if their emergency contact would like us to call to explain visitation guidelines and to ensure they have patient’s room phone number/nurse unit phone number. If yes, volunteers will place these calls. If/when patients relay needs or concerns, we connect with nursing staff at the end of the patient call to assist in real time with the need/concern. If/when patients recognize staff for providing exceptional care, we send recognition emails to the staff members with a copy to their leader.

Advocate Aurora computer access is provided for all volunteers.

Training consists of 4-6 hours. Volunteers will learn to place and conduct patient calls with the guidance of our training coordinator, and when the volunteer feels confident with the call script and all questions/concerns are answered, they may begin to make calls on their own.

Hours of operation: Mon-Fri – any timeframe from 8:30am-7pm (Days and hours to volunteer are flexible.)  Commitment is a minimum of six months.

Volunteer: Walking School Bus Volunteers Needed

Walking School Bus assistants and substitute volunteers needed!

What is a Walking School Bus?

A Walking School Bus (WSB) is a safe, fun, and healthy way for children to walk to school together with the guidance of caring adult volunteers. Students get fresh air and exercise, while families enjoy peace of mind knowing their children are supervised along the way.

How It Works:

A group of children meet at a set location and walk to school together on a planned route.

Adult volunteers (parents, staff, or community members) walk with the group, helping keep everyone safe and together.

The walk usually takes about 20–30 minutes, depending on the route.

The WSB runs rain or shine (except in unsafe weather conditions).

Volunteer Details:

Volunteers can commit to one or more days per week, or serve as a substitute when a leader is unavailable.

No experience is needed—just a willingness to walk and supervise students.

A brief training will be provided.

Time commitment is minimal, but the positive impact is huge!

Why Volunteer?
This is a low-commitment, high-impact way to support students and school safety. Plus, it’s a fun way to connect with kids and the school community!

Volunteer: Socialize Service Dogs in Training

Journey Together is a prison dog program that trains service dogs to help people with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).  Our dogs spend the majority of their time being trained by inmates at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution.  However, to have the skills needed to be a successful service dog, our puppies need exposure to public places and events.

Volunteers schedule times that work in their schedule to take the dogs to locations for public access and exposure.  Grocery stores, department stores, youth events, parks and restaurants are all examples of places the dogs need to experience.  Our volunteers select the dates and times that fit their lifestyle.

JTSD provides orientation and training to new volunteers and ongoing training opportunities as well as group outings.

Volunteer: Veteran to Veteran Companion Volunteer

We are looking for Veterans who interested in providing companionship to our Veteran hospice patients. For many Veterans, the opportunity to share their stories can be fulfilling and often contributes a sense of fellowship, life closure and peace. If the volunteer is a Veteran, the sharing can be all that more powerful. Veterans may want to share their stories with someone who understands what they went through. They feel connected by hearing other Veteran stories. They gain validation and understanding in a very special way from another Veteran.

If you feel compelled to be of service to a fellow Veteran in this way, please contact our volunteer coordinators for more information. You can do so by calling 920-338-1111.
