New Docent Training Program at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass

If you have a passion for art and serving our community through engaging conversations with visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, we’d love to meet you!

 

What is a Docent?

A Docent is a museum volunteer who helps connect visitors with the collection and exhibitions of the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass. You will be able to confidently lead Museum tours for adult and school groups. Docents provide opportunities for Museum visitors to engage, interpret, and create personal connections with art.

 

Why should I become a Docent?

As a Docent, you have the opportunity to:

Complete a thorough, comprehensive, and personally enriching Docent training program focused on art and cultural history, arts education, and the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum collectionAccess exclusive lectures by artists and curators, gallery and exhibition previews, and other arts and education programming Docent Continuing Education eventsBecome a part of the vibrant, diverse, and service-oriented community of DocentsParticipate in one free glass fusing class and experience a free glass blowing demo


How long is the training, and do I need previous experience?

Training involves five 2-hour sessions and no previous experience is required. The fifth session involves a final project which may extend the timing of the session. Training sessions will take place on Mondays from 3:00pm-5:00pm on June 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and July 8th. All sessions will be held on site at the Museum. More training sessions coming soon!
