Volunteer: Socialize Service Dogs in Training

Journey Together is a prison dog program that trains service dogs to help people with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).  Our dogs spend the majority of their time being trained by inmates at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution.  However, to have the skills needed to be a successful service dog, our puppies need exposure to public places and events.

Volunteers schedule times that work in their schedule to take the dogs to locations for public access and exposure.  Grocery stores, department stores, youth events, parks and restaurants are all examples of places the dogs need to experience.  Our volunteers select the dates and times that fit their lifestyle.

JTSD provides orientation and training to new volunteers and ongoing training opportunities as well as group outings.

Volunteer: Fundraising Enthusiast Wanted!

Saving Paws Animal Rescue, Inc. is a volunteer-run, no-kill animal rescue in Appleton that functions entirely on community support.

 Fundraising Enthusiast Wanted!

Fundraising volunteers can be any age.  Even the youngest among us are welcome to participate by having neighborhood lemonade stands or bake sales.  Maybe they could organize a “Penny War” at their school.  Tweens and teens could gather their friends to do a food drive.  No event is too small to help.   Adults could arrange events at local restaurants or create an activity at our adoption events.

To begin your volunteer adventure, please e-mail fundraising@savingpawswi.com or visit us online at www.savingpaws.com

Volunteer: Support the Animals!

Saving Paws Animal Rescue would not be successful without the service and engagement of young people in our community.

We have developed a list of ways for youth to support our rescue operation. Many of these ideas are from the students themselves. If you have an a new idea, we would love to hear it!

On-site volunteering minimum age is 11 years old.  Youth from 11-15 years old must be accompanied by parent or guardian. These are some ways to help off-site or in a group!

Wish list Fulfillment – locate donors for items from our wish list to bring to our rescue. This is a great way for children to directly help our pets by finding them toys, blankets, litter, etc. and it gives them a wonderful feeling of generosity and pride!

Party For The Pets – host a birthday, holiday, or other party and ask that guests bring donated items or money for the dogs and cats instead of a present. Schedule a time to bring these gifts in and receive a tour and see first-hand all the animals you are helping!

Rescue Spokesperson – pass out general information flyers or special notices regarding upcoming rescue events like Santa Pictures, Gift Wrapping, Garage Sales, etc. They can also print pictures of our animals and pass them out to classmates and friends to show off our wonderful pets.

Classroom Organizers – talk to classes at their school about the rescue and encourage them to “adopt” Saving Paws Rescue as a community project. They can hold a coloring contest (winners posted on our website) and raise donations or gather items from our wish list. Some schools have organized penny Wars and donated change to benefit Saving Paws animals. Groundskeepers – organize a rescue beautification project. Your child’s classroom, troop or other groups can schedule time to come out and plant flowers, bushes or even pull weeds to help keep our rescue a beautiful and happy place for our pets.

Volunteer: Saving Paws - Cat Care

Enjoy taking care of animals and looking for a flexible schedule? Sign up to be a cat care volunteer at Saving Paws, a volunteer-run, no-kill animal rescue in Appleton.

As a cat care volunteer, you provide care to the kittens and cats temporarily calling Saving Paws home.  Duties include socializing the cats, feeding, watering and cleaning the rooms where the cats live. No previous experience is needed – we provide the training.  We have morning, afternoon and evening time slots for our volunteers. Each cat care shift is about two hours.

Once you complete general orientation, we will partner you with a trained volunteer who will show you what to do.  You will shadow that person for several shifts until you are comfortable to be on your own.  We use an on-line scheduling tool called Volunteer Matters for sign ups. The best part is you choose a time that works for you – we do not have regular open hours.

Children over the age of 11 can volunteer with their parents or another adult at Saving Paws.  The person supervising must go through Orientation and be fully trained as well.

While you do not receive monetary payment for your time at Saving Paws, you’ll be rewarded with kitty snuggles, plenty of purring and playful head butts from our grateful animals. Our cats love our volunteers.
