Pillars provides shelter to 135 individuals each night between two shelters, and it is our mission to provide a safe place for individuals to rest their heads, receive basic services, and work towards finding a place to call their own. 

Each night Pillars provides dinner at each shelter, and we cannot do this without the service, dedication, and selflessness of our volunteers. There are opportunities for anyone over the age of 7. For just three hours of your time you can serve dinner to 55 individuals, providing them with the nutrition needed to get through to the next day and continue on their path out of homelessness. 

HERE ARE SOME DETAILS ABOUT DINNER SERVICE AT BOTH SHELTERS:

Lunch Providers make 30 lunches for our clients on Saturday OR Sunday, to be delivered between 11:15am - 12pm (we are able to be flexible on the timing if needed)!  
Lunches can be as simple as a PB & J sandwich with a side (chips, applesauce, etc.) and a fruit/veggie. It could also be something more complex - totally up to you and your ability!

Depending on the activity, volunteer shifts may occur at the following times:

St. Joe's Food Program is grateful to support our local community, to ensure everyone has access to quality nutrition.  We are seeking volunteers to join us in our mission to fight hunger and sustain hope.

We are currently seeking volunteers to help in a variety of capacities, including:

Packing Groceries Food Distribution Donation Truck Drivers & Helpers Outdoor Client Assistants Warehouse Attendants Conversational abilities to speak Spanish, Hmong or another world language to provide a positive client experience

Depending on the activity, volunteer shifts may occur at the following times:

Mondays and Wednesdays between 8:00AM and Noon Monday evenings between 3:30PM and 6:30 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00AM to 1:30PM Truck Routes Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM

Essential Job Functions:

Go through Little Free Pantry donations to check for expired food and remove donations not applicable to the pantry. Stock the pantry as needed. Purchase food with gift cards as needed. Alert library staff when stock is getting low. Assist with special food projects like pop-up pantries, partner events, or bulk donations. Prepare brown bag lunches as applicable to the Summer Feeding Program. Assist with the running of the hydrogarden as needed. Help maintain outdoor learning garden planters by planting, monitoring, and harvesting food for the Little Free Pantry.

Requirements of Work:

Provide a copy of your Driver’s License in good standing. Have and provide proof of auto insurance every six months. Lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs. Sign a liability waiver. Pass a background check.

Training Provided: The Library will meet with the volunteer as part of the orientating process. Forms and expectations will be gone over during the initial meeting. We are in need of volunteers to help us pack traditional tribal foods into boxes every other Wednesday beginning May 15th until December 4th. The goal of this project is to distribute about 2000 after each pack. Each box will contain perishable Indigenously sourced food items The packing will take place on-site at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin in Appleton. 


Volunteers will meet at the Appleton Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin warehouse no later than 8:00am for the first shift that runs until 10:45am, or 11:30am for the second that runs until 2:15pm. At the start time, we will walk through what is being packed that day, and the different needs and tasks to be accomplished.

Cooks and bakers volunteering with Living Spirit help by making and preparing lunch for 16 or making baked treats for 16 to be enjoyed at morning coffee. Lunches and baked treats can be prepared on-site in the First English Lutheran Church kitchen, or prepared off-site and delivered to the kitchen, either fresh or frozen. Cooks are encouraged to help serve lunch and clean-up afterward, but that is not required. They'll love your food, and you'll love working with them!
