Who We Are

The State of WI Board on Aging and Long Term Care is an advocacy agency focused on improving the quality of life for the elderly living in WI! We advocate for the interests of WI's long term care consumers, inform those consumers of their rights, and educate the public about health care systems and long term care. Our values encompass: respect and dignity for the individual; protection of their rights to be free from threats to health, safety, and quality of life; fairness and transparency; and open, clear, and consistent communication. Our Volunteer Ombudsman Program serves individuals ages 60 or over who are residents of nursing homes in Wisconsin.

What We Do

If you enjoy visiting with older adults, this opportunity could be perfect for YOU! We are looking for volunteer advocates (known as Volunteer Ombudsmen) to improve the lives of the elderly living in nursing homes all over NE WI - specifically in Green Bay and the surrounding communities! These advocates make weekly visits to a designated nursing home or assisted living facility, where they make pop-in visits with residents to see how they are doing and to empower them to resolve concerns or issues they may be experiencing. Our volunteers are friendly visitors who offer encouragement, empowerment, and advocacy. Training is provided, and ongoing support is always available. This opportunity is flexible - visits are 1-3 hours in duration, and can be made any day of the week between 8am-8pm. A background check is required. Please consider becoming a Volunteer Ombudsman in your community!
