Who We Are
Hearthstone Historic House Museum is operated by Friends of Hearthstone, Inc., a non-profit, public 501 (c) 3 charitable organization. Hearthstone has been at the forefront of preservation and interpretation of technology, history, and art in our community since 1986. The beautifully restored house is more than just a technology museum. It is also a history museum illustrating a critical time in the history of the United States and the Fox Cities, an art museum showcasing Queen Anne style architecture and Victorian interior design and decorating, and a collaborative institution with many programming partners.
Although it has a modest paid staff, its drive comes from its over 100 passionate, energetic volunteers who put in over 10,000 hours annually to care for and interpret the history and art contained in the structure, its contents, and its grounds.
What We Do
Hearthstone Historic House Museum aims to preserve and interpret its unique intersection of history, technology, art, and geography making it tangible, relevant, and meaningful to those around it.
We offer guided tours year-round that highlight the technological, historic, and artistic significance of the house.
We also have special seasonal exhibits and events throughout the year. These include “Mystery at the Museum” in the Spring, Summer on the Veranda (relaxed evening tours with re-enactors and live performances on our antique square grand piano) from May-September, Haunted Hearthstone in October, and Victorian Christmas in December. The museum regularly hosts special and traveling exhibits as well as other public and private events throughout the year.
Our Volunteers are the generators that power Hearthstone. Our dedicated, passionate volunteers do everything from greeting guests and serving as docents to hands on acquisition, curation, and preservation work and taking care of our gardens and maintaining the residence to helping with events and even acting in our theatrical productions.
