We are excited to announce another year of our iCan Shine Bike Camp! Over the course of five days, individuals with disabilities (ages 8 and up) are given the opportunity to learn how to ride a bicycle! With the help of our wonderful volunteers, camp participants are able to face their fears, challenge themselves, and leave feeling empowered that they were able to accomplish this milestone.
Spotter: Walk/jog/run alongside a rider as they are learning to ride a bike during a 75-minute session (with short breaks) for 5 days Monday through Friday. You will provide encouragement and physical support, as needed.
We encourage volunteers to commit to attending all 5 days of camp for the session(s) selected. Riders bond with their assigned volunteer(s) and rely on the same person to be there to support them each day of camp. We do understand this is not always a possibility and will welcome volunteers any days they can attend.
Other volunteer roles include:
• Be a fan, make a lot of noise, cheer everyone on
• Check in volunteers/riders—hand out T-shirts and other goodies
• Help with set-up and clean up
• Pick up lunch, water and other refreshments needed
• Be a “gopher” during camp—just an all-around extra set of hands/legs
Camp runs 8:15am-4:50pm and volunteers sign up for 75 min sessions
