BEAMING provides therapeutic horseback riding programs for children with physical or emotional disabilities. See our profile for a full description of what we do.
We are in great need of volunteer “side-walkers.” The task is to have two volunteers (one on each side of the horse) walk along side of the disabled child while her/she is aboard the horse. The goal is to steady the rider and to give the child confidence. The sessions take place inside our horse arena.
The docile horse is under the control of an experienced horseperson and thus it is not necessary for you to have horse experience. We will train you for this position.
Our therapeutic rides are usually held on weekday basis Monday and Tuesdays 3:30-7:30 pm. During the summer we have various camps as well. We operate 50 weeks a year and need a cadre of volunteers to fulfill our mission.
You can volunteer for one session a week, one session a month or however many sessions you would like to participate in. Volunteer for the full four hours (3:30-7:30) or just a two-hour shift! (3:30-5:30 or 5:30-7:30)
There is a lot of walking involved so you must be minimally in shape.
The position is ideal for almost any age group but particularly great for mature teens over 14 years of age. Why not round up some of your friends and make it a weekly or monthly outing?
This is the perfect job for anyone who ever wanted a horse but whose dad wouldn’t buy them one!
