Nature of work: Library Shelving Volunteers play an important role in helping keep the library organized, welcoming, and accessible for all visitors. Volutneers assist staff by accurately shelving books, DVDs, magazines, and othe library materials in their proper locations, ensuring that patrons can easily find the items they are looking for.
Ages: Completed grade six and up
Supervisor: Bethany Neuman
Shifts: Saturdays
Essential Job Functions:
- Shelve returned library materials according to library classifiction/organization and shelving procedures.
- Straighten and organize materials on library shelves.
- Check shelves for misplaced items and maintain orderly collections.
- Assist with shifting matierlas when needed to create space and maintain shelf organization.
- Alert staff to damage materials or shelving issues.
- Follow library policies and procedures while owrking independetly and as part of a team.
- Greet patrons in a friendly manner and direct library-related questions to staff members.
- Refer requests for accoutn assistance, reference help, technology support, reader's advisory, and other library services to staff members.
- Sign in and out of shifts.
Requirements of Work:
- Ability to alphabetize and orangize materials accurately using the Dewey Decimal System and alphabetical filing.
- Attention to detail and willingness to learn library shelving systems.
- Dependable, punctual, and ale to work independetly.
- Ability to bend, reach, kneel, lift above head, push carts, and stand or walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to read fine print.
- Ability to lift 5 - 10 lbs.
- Friendly attitude and commitement to supporting library services.
- Pass a background check
Training Provided: The Library will meet with the volunteer as part of the orientating process. Forms and expectations will be gone over during the initial meeting.
