Purpose: Shelter Assistants act as supplemental support to staff at both Pillars shelters. While Shelter Assistants are providing support throughout shelter for staff, Crisis Housing staff can provide one-on-one support to clients and provide intake interviews for incoming individuals & families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide donation intake assistance
- Store donations in their proper storage areas
- Date and rotate donations, including non-perishable food donations
- Assist staff with filling other critical volunteer roles as needed during volunteer’s shift
- Adult & Family Shelter Only Tasks:
- Fill voucher request for clients by accessing donation storage throughout shelter
- Sort mail for clients
- Adult Shelter Only Tasks:
- Prepare bagged lunches for clients working the following day
- Serve worker’s trays (leftovers) for clients that arrive after dinner, following work or appointments
- Assist with shelter & client laundry
Shift Times at Adult & Family Shelter:
2 hour shifts, all 24 hours of the day! Currently, overnights and evenings are VERY NEEDED!
Shift Times at Adult Shelter:
PM Shift: 7-9pm or 9-11pm (you decide!)
All new Pillars volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation.
